Sharon P. O'Day

Sharon is a specialist in Marital and Family Law and represents clients in all aspects of family law in the Kirk-Pinkerton Family Law Division. She joined the firm in the summer of 2009 in the Bradenton Office and represents clients throughout Manatee and Sarasota counties.

She is Board Certified in Marital and Family Law and a Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator and a Florida Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator.

Ms. O'Day has been practicing in the area of family law since 2001.  She develops a case strategy to achieve the most favorable results possible for her clients. She represents clients in domestic violence injunctions, divorce, parental responsibility, paternity, child support, alimony, enforcement and modification of prior court orders. She also assists clients in the drafting of pre- and post- nuptial agreements. Ms. O'Day has represented clients in complex litigation  involving multiple issues.  As an advocate for her clients, she ensures they understand and can fully participate in the complicated processes of mediation and litigation.

In her capacity as a Supreme Court Certified Family Mediator , Ms. O'Day works with all parties to mediate a cooperative agreement that will resolve all issues in a family dispute. Divorce and family disputes can be emotionally devastating and costly and she works to reach an amicable conclusion to the issues in the most efficient manner possible. With an extensive background in international law and interstate issues, she is also well suited to represent families with specific multi-state and international family law issues. Ms. O'Day has specific training in resolving international child custody issues, and these can be some of the most challenging issues faced  by a family.

Sharon was born in Baltimore and grew up in Ellicott City, Maryland. She attended the University of Maryland where she received her BA in Economics with honors and a BA in Government & Politics. She attended George Washington Law School in Washington, DC and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 1987. Ms. O'Day was admitted to practice law in Maryland in the fall of 1987.

Following graduation Ms. O'Day worked for several non-profit organizations in the Washington, D.C. area, representing refugees from around the world in legal matters before the Immigration Service. In 1992, she joined the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees as a Protection Officer. She was stationed in South East Asia, the former Yugoslavia and Africa, where she worked with government officials and aid organizations to ensure the rights of the refugees were protected.
